Vine Cliff 1871 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection is a tribute to Napa Valley's most renowned terroir, the upper reaches of Oakville's eastern benchlands. Positioned nearly 800 feet above the valley floor, the ruddy, volcanic soils at the upper slopes of our estate vineyard offer an exceptional terroir for growing the world's finest Cabernet Sauvignon. This opulent, single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon is produced exclusively from these upper benchland blocks and our top barrels.

The 2023 Vine Cliff 1871 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection is inky, dense and deeply layered. Cassis and black cherry dominate the initial aromatics before yielding to anise, licorice and sarsaparilla. The iron-rich soils of our upper benchlands bring a mineral, sanguine quality that recalls roasted wild game, gunpowder and graphite.

Texturally, this is a broad, full-bodied wine, more chiseled than plush. We are eager to see how these finely hewn, muscular tannins ease over the next two decades to reveal even greater complexity and depth.
