Vine Cliff 1871 Cabernet Sauvignon is both a testament to our history and a bold expression of our estate’s singular terroir. Grown from the oldest blocks of our Oakville estate vineyard, planted nearly two centuries ago, this wine embodies the most dramatic terrain in Napa Valley. Carved into our impossibly steep hillsides, these rare, terraced vineyard blocks represent a unique planting technique found on less than 1% of the valley’s vineyard land. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon of remarkable vibrancy and intensity, where heritage, site, and grapegrowing expertise converge.
For optimum enjoyment of this wine, please decant and serve at about 60 °F.

The 2023 Vine Cliff 1871 Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold, opulent expression of the estate’s oldest hillside vineyard blocks. The wine opens with an energetic attack, delivering a burst of vibrant, ripe black cherry framed by warm baking spice notes of allspice and clove. As the wine’s initial exuberance settles, it develops a profound sense of textural richness that is the hallmark of Oakville’s greatest sites.
The steep, terraced vineyard blocks where this wine is grown lend remarkable focus and intensity to this wine, acting as a foil to its undeniable opulence. The 2023 Vine Cliff 1871 Cabernet Sauvignon channels the dramatic terrain of our estate, marrying generous power with an underlying elegance and poise. Exceptionally appealing now, we expect even greater heights from this wine over the next 15-20 years.

A grand vision

experienced touch

Led by Director of Winemaking Mayaan Koschitzky, our winemaking team draws on expertise shaped in some of Napa Valley’s most iconic cellars. Together, they craft wines that reflect both uncompromising skill and the enduring legacy of Vine Cliff 1871.
A legacy cultivated over time

Founded in 1871 on land carved from George Yount’s estate, Vine Cliff 1871 emerged as the largest winery in early Napa Valley. Through decades of trials and triumph, this estate has endured where others have vanished. Phylloxera destroyed the vineyards. Prohibition brought silence. Earthquakes tested resolve. Yet, through each challenge an authenticity was indelibly forged by time.
Like the phoenix that symbolizes our legacy, Vine Cliff 1871 rises once more to reclaim its place among Napa’s most distinguished vineyards.
